Trip.com Trip Coins are rewards that members can earn and use toward subsequent prepaid bookings. Coins earned from bookings are valid for 18 months after being credited to the account, while coins earned from hotel reviews are valid for 6 months; promotional coins are subject to the terms of the applicable promotion. However, they cannot be used for every booking. Before paying, check whether the Trip Coins option appears on the payment page, as well as the actual amount deducted and the remaining validity period.
Last reviewed: September 24, 2026 (KST). The period, usage, and refund policies below are based on the official Trip.com Rewards FAQ and terms. This is not a firsthand account based on directly checking the actual balance in an account or whether a specific booking is eligible.
How are Trip Coins different from a cash discount?
Trip Coins are rewards credited to your account; they are not a means of withdrawing cash or transferring value to another person. Trip.com gives the example that 100 Trip Coins can provide approximately US$1 in booking discounts, but this should not be interpreted as a fixed exchange rate or a guaranteed amount for every currency or booking. The actual deduction shown on the payment page is the determining figure. Do not add coins that will be earned in the future to the current payment discount amount.
| Earning method | Official validity period | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible booking | 18 months after being credited to the account | Credit date and expiration month |
| Hotel review | 6 months after being credited to the account | Review approval and credit history |
| Promotions and events | Terms for each event | Separate expiration conditions for the applicable event |
According to the official FAQ, the coins above expire on the last day of the expiration month, based on GMT+8. Coins that have already expired cannot be used or extended. Because the booking date and the date on which coins are credited are not always the same, do not count 18 months from the date you booked your trip; instead, check the credit and expiration records in your account.
How to use Trip.com Trip Coins: 5 steps before payment
- Log in to the Trip.com account you will use for the booking and check whether your email has been verified. The official FAQ restricts the use of coins by members with unverified email addresses.
- Check your balance and credit and expiration history under ‘Trip Coins’ on the website or ‘Account > Trip Coins’ in the app. Menu labels may vary depending on the language and app version.
- After selecting a booking product, proceed to the payment stage and check whether the Trip Coin discount option actually appears. Some special bookings are not eligible.
- Select the coins to use and check the total payment amount, the amount deducted in coins, and the results of applying coupons and other benefits separately. Do not assume in advance that coins and coupons can be used together.
- After checking the final amount and the booking cancellation policy, make the payment and retain your order details and coin usage records.
For a final price comparison before booking, also refer to the Trip.com coupon and payment checklist; for hotel booking terms, see the hotel discount and app coupon guide. If you also want to compare the possibility of cancellation, you can consult the flight cancellation fee and refund guide.
When coins are not visible or cannot be applied
| Symptom | Cause to check first | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Balance is lower than expected | Whether the coins have not yet been credited, were deducted because of a canceled booking, or have expired | Check the coin transaction history and scheduled credit date in your account |
| No usage option appears on the payment screen | Whether the booking is prepaid and the product is eligible, and whether special-booking exclusions apply | Check eligibility on the payment screen for the specific booking |
| Use is declined | Account email verification, expiration date, and event-specific restrictions | Confirm that the conditions are met and contact official customer support with the booking number |
| Coins do not return immediately after cancellation | The booking cancellation policy and the status of the cash refund | Check the cash refund amount and coin return details separately |
The official FAQ states that coins earned from hotel bookings are generally credited within 2–6 weeks after the stay is completed. Coins for flights are generally credited after ticket issuance, but some bookings that allow free partial cancellation may take longer. Do not count coins that have not yet been credited as an already available balance.
Are the Trip Coins I used refunded if I cancel my booking?
A full return in all cases is not guaranteed. According to the official FAQ, when a booking paid for with coins is refunded, the amount paid in cash is returned first, and all or some of the coins used may be returned to the account according to the booking cancellation policy. The validity period of returned coins remains the same as the original period. If the expiration date is near, check separately both whether the coins themselves are returned and how long they can be reused. Conversely, coins already earned from a canceled booking may be deducted.
Checklist immediately before payment
- Did you log in to the same account and complete email verification?
- Did you distinguish coins currently available for use from coins scheduled to be earned in the future?
- Did you check the coin credit date, expiration month, and eligibility by product?
- Did you check the final payment amount without estimating the combined value of coupons, card benefits, and coins?
- Did you read the refund rules for cash and coins separately in the event of cancellation?
Start with the credit date
Record when Trip Coins are actually credited, not merely when a booking is made. The 2026-10-25 partial review confirmed the official FAQ’s booking 18 months, hotel-review 6 months and promotion-specific validity.

Illustrative expiry calculation
If credited on 2026-01-15, booking rewards reach the expiry month in July 2027 and hotel-review rewards in July 2026. Apply the official month-end rule in GMT+8 and verify the actual account expiry. This is a hypothetical example.

Pending is not spendable
In an example with 500 pending Coins and 300 available Coins, the current candidate balance is 300, not 800. Eligibility, caps, expiry and the deduction actually offered at checkout still apply.

Track each cancellation adjustment
For a hypothetical KRW 100,000 cash payment plus Coins, track cash returned, used Coins returned, earned Coins reversed and the returned Coins’ original expiry separately. Do not promise the combined amount back in cash.

Reconcile the account record
Match credit date and source, expiry, booking use and cancellation adjustments to the booking number. Returned Coins are not necessarily usable after their original expiry. Ask official support with redacted records if unclear.

Frequently asked questions
1. Are 100 Trip Coins always worth one dollar?
No. Trip.com’s example of ‘approximately US$1’ explains the reference value; it is not a fixed exchange rate or a promise of cash conversion. Check the actual discount amount on the payment screen.
2. Are Trip Coins valid for 18 months after booking?
Coins earned from a booking are valid for 18 months from when they are credited to the account, not from the booking date. Coins earned from hotel reviews are valid for 6 months after crediting, while promotional coins are subject to the terms of the applicable event.
3. Can I use them for all flight and hotel bookings?
No. They can be used for discounts on prepaid bookings, but some special bookings may be excluded. Check the Trip Coin usage option at the payment stage for the selected booking.
4. Can I use coupons and Trip Coins together?
This may vary by product and promotion. Do not assume both can be applied; compare the actual deduction amounts on the final payment screen for the same booking.
5. If I cancel, are the Trip Coins I used refunded in cash?
Conversion to cash is not guaranteed. The cash payment and the coins used are processed separately, and the number of coins returned is subject to the cancellation policy for the booking. The original validity period of returned coins also remains unchanged.
